Course Objectives and Overview
The course aims to provide students with first-hand experience of how data science is applied in real-world global contexts. Students will learn how data science and AI can be leveraged to address international policy challenges.
Throughout the semester, students will participate in a project centered on a specific global issue. The course covers the full lifecycle of a typical data science project, including: data exploration and problem definition, background research, prototyping, modeling and analysis, data storytelling (presentations and visualization)
Instructional Methods
Organized around a semester-long collaborative project
Course activities combine asynchronous learning modules, structured team goals, and mentoring sessions
Follows the data science project lifecycle: problem scoping and data exploration → background research and contextual analysis → prototyping and iterative solution design → modeling, analysis, and evaluation → communicating results through data storytelling
Opportunities to participate in AI-related workshops and site visits offered by leading global companies
